Looking Back
The Eagles continued a stream of
spiking success since Bob Perkins
began piloting the program in
2010.
STH set four school records paced
by co-captains Joe Pelletier ’15
and Jeremy Gregory ’15, raced to
the program’s first-ever regional
championship, then rocked a
third-place result at the TAPPS 5A
State Swimming Championships
in San Antonio, following the
breakthrough runner-up finish in
2014.
Nick Zetka ’16, Pelletier, Luke
Nicholson ’16 and Gregory set
a new STH standard in the 200
medley relay ... Gregory, Travis
Zetka ’18, Pelletier and James
Zetka ’16 in the 200 free relay ...
and Pelletier lowered the individual
times in the 200 individual medley
and 100 breaststroke.
The Eagles added three other
significant meet victories, winning
the 12-team Battle for the Crown
Invitational in San Antonio and
then topping 17 teams in the 10th
Annual Houston Area Private and
Parochial Invitational.
Ten of the program’s 19 swimmers
qualified for state, the program’s
highest-ever percentage, including
first-timers Collin Brant ’15, Travis
Zetka (Freshman Newcomer of
the Year), Josh Todd ’16 and John
Miggins ’17 (Most Improved).
Fund raising efforts resulted
in the program’s first custom
record board now in Reckling
Gymnasium. All 11 marks
displayed have been posted since
Perkins became head coach
and seven of the 11 have been
established within the last two
years.
Looking Forward
First priority is replacing the
leadership and performance of
program pillars Pelletier (2015
Most Valuable) and Gregory (Eagle
Spirit Award winner) plus the solid
contributions of many three-year
lettermen and state qualifiers.
“We’re well positioned for another
strong run,” Perkins said. “The
Zetka twins (James and Nick).
bring tremendous freestyle and
backstroke sprint speed and relay
potential to the team.
Nicholson looks to qualify top-five
at state for the fourth year in a row
in the distance (200 free and 500
free) and butterfly events. Those
three will be instrumental in relays
as well.”
Perkins expects Todd, Miggins and
Travis Zetka to build on their 2015
state qualifying seasons and “bring
both strong individual and relay
impact to this year’s team.”
“I’m really proud of the strong
culture and teamwork that has
developed over the last few years
and really encouraged about this
season’s potential. We’re looking to
break more school records along
the way,” Perkins said.
